Designing Learning Spaces
AV Technology Essential for Active Learning Environments

by Duncan Peberdy – TOP-TEC Learning Spaces Specialist

ISE, February 2014 and SCHOMS, June 2014

The classroom and lecture theatre have lost their exclusivity as learning spaces. Technology now allows students to be equipped with tablet computers and smart phones. Therefore, they have access to media-rich learning material almost everywhere they go – before, during and after formal instruction. Active learning spaces across the campus, together with the technology to enhance their use, must adapt to deliver new ways of learning by supporting the devices that students use at home, in transit and in education. For instance, our wide selection of AV lecterns can be used in a variety of settings. This includes small to medium-sized classrooms and big lecture halls. Additionally, we supply a mixture of brackets such as projector mounts and screen ceiling mounts.

About Duncan: Duncan is TOP-TECs Learning Spaces Specialist and writer of a number of publications about how students and colleagues work together (inc. Brilliant Meetings in 2009). His latest book, Active Learning Spaces and Technology, was released earlier this year.
