Kingston University London: Flexible ICT Laboratory

Kingston University is a public research university based in London. They pride themselves in delivering teaching excellence and a conducive environment for students.  To support this, they wanted to refurbish a teaching space in their John Galsworthy Building to be more of a collaborative learning space instead of a traditional classroom.

The University was aware of some of our previous project and trusted in our ability to help create this flexible ICT lab. After discussing their requirements with us, TOP-TEC was up to the task.

Key Project Criteria

• Provide a space to accommodate up to 36 students
• Desks would need to accommodate ICT and non-ICT work within the same learning space
• Furniture solutions must be height adjustable to enable Equality Act compliance

Following meetings with the team at Kingston University and our design team, it was decided that our Manual flip-top desks would be most suitable for the space and aligned with their requirements.

Manual flip-top desks conceal screen, keyboard and mouse, all available to the user at the pull of a lever. Supporting ICT and non-ICT activities within the same space, these user-friendly desks are well established by their build quality.

Additionally, the desks robust steel frame is designed specifically to support heavy computer equipment, while added cable trunking provides neat and easy cable management.

TOP-TEC offered 2D room layouts to help maximise the use of the space alongside 3D product renders of the gaming stations so that the university could begin to visualise how the workstations would look.
